leadership council
The leadership council is a group made up of a sample portion of the entire football program. This group is assigned the responsibility of aiding the head coach in making decisions regarding the program. The purpose of putting this group together is to try and give the athletes a sense of ownership regarding their program. Student athletes will be a lot more likely to buy into something if they feel they had a hand in making the decision. It will also allow the coaching staff a chance to stay more in touch with what the pulse of the team is. It also allows the coaching staff to possibly head off any major problems before they arise.
The fourteen member council will be made up of:
Two Coaches (Head Coach being one of them)
Four Seniors
Three Juniors
Two Sophomores
Two Freshmen
One Manager/Trainer/Video Technician
The group will meet every other Tuesday during the study hall time or prior to school during the off season. During the season the council will meet every Tuesday.
Members for the group will be selected by the coaches based on their commitment, character, and leadership skills. This is not a group of the best athletes. Some of the best athletes may be on the council, but pick student athletes that will be open, honest, and fair in their assessment of issues facing the team.
